Signs of a hot spot:
- Hair loss
- Itchy
- Raw
- Moist sore
- Increases in size
These sores need treatment as quickly as possible or they will continue to spread. They are very painful and itchy.
Treatment involves a visit to your vet where you may be given cream and antibiotic tablets. As hot spots spread so quickly, the sooner your dog is seen, the better.
Regularly washing your dog can help to prevent hot spots as it keeps the skin clean, though even the most carefully groomed dog can still have a hot spot. Any breed of dog can have a hot spot, however it is more common in retrievers and Rottweilers.
